Throwing a Party during Social-Distancing

Celebrations don’t always require large crowds, sometimes the best parties only have a few attendants. If you are reading this then you are probably aware that our world has taken a huge shift in the last few weeks. Social distancing is no longer a phrase that requires defining. We are experiencing life through limited physical human interaction and for some it can be quite devastating. Despite the new turn of events, we don’t have to completely say goodbye to festivities we may have been planning, we can simply modify them.

In February I decided to throw my boys a mini-party. Whats a mini party? Everything a regular party is-but on a smaller scale. In my case, it was something I thought would be sweet for them, especially being that it was the week of valentines day. Now here we are over a month later and many of us are at home with just the members of our household. However birthdays are still coming and your loved ones are still very much deserving of being celebrated.

So what do you do?

simple, party (mini-style) !

Online Shopping

I’m sure there aren’t many people surprised to find that online shopping is likely at an all-time high. Simply check out how your favourite shop is handling orders during this COVID-19 pandemic and shop accordingly. My tableware was purchased from Party et Cie

Amazon is also an option (though I’m sure they are very busy) I don’t foresee them putting a stop to ordering.

Michaels is offering online shopping with curb side pick up. Simply place your order online and choose instore pick up. They will notify when you can get your order and upon arrival they will put your purchases in your trunk for you (sweet right?)

Set Up

Less guests, less mess- right?

Don’t be afraid to blow up your balloons, set up the table and add some streamers just like you would have if there was a larger group. Showing that special person how much they are loved by putting effort into making their parties look great (even if it’s just a small section of your home)

Friends
If you still want to include other people, thankfully modern technology has you in mind. There are a number of video-calling apps and programs that will allow you to have family and friends that can’t physically be there with you. Set aside a time during the celebration to call a few ! Or you can ask loved ones to make videos and send them to you before the party and have them played for the guest of honour !

The key to making your mini party a success is to focus on modifying and not what it would have been if you didn’t have to change things. A lot of the times your perspective can be the one thing robbing you of joy! Life is a journey of lessons and if this season is teaching us anything let it be gratitude, finding joy in the little things, and making the most out of every circumstance.

Have you had to cancel any plans, will you consider a mini-party? Share some of your ideas/modifications or themes below!
